Technology sharing under threat: Pentagon meetings canceled due to US government shutdown

Several planned meetings of the Ukrainian delegation with representatives of the American authorities have already been disrupted this week: US officials have been asked to “stay home.”

According to The Telegraph, this is due to the fact that a significant part of American civil servants was sent on leave due to the partial suspension of government work.

A Ukrainian delegation arrived in the United States on Tuesday to negotiate a multibillion-dollar drone technology exchange. But a staffing “shutdown” in Washington has put the talks at risk of falling apart.

“All future projects have suffered a little because the Pentagon, State Department and White House are not meeting, and we are losing time because of this closure,” a source in the Ukrainian government told The Telegraph.

The publication’s interlocutor added that other Ukrainian delegations that were supposed to travel to the US in the near future are already reviewing their plans due to the uncertainty of the situation.

In the context of this story, it is worth noting: although the US government has been temporarily suspended, key support to Ukraine has not officially been stopped, namely in the areas of military assistance and foreign policy.

As a reminder, the US federal government will officially shut down at midnight on October 1. The reason is the failure of attempts to extend funding for the new budget year due to deep disputes between Democrats and Republicans in Congress.

As reported, a delegation from the National Security and Defense Council and the Ministry of Defense visited the United States to hold technical negotiations on signing an agreement to purchase Ukrainian drones.
