Iran has announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to shipping amid renewed tensions with the United States. However, Washington claims that ship traffic through the strategic sea route continues as usual.

This is reported by CNN.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced the alleged complete closure of the strait. Tehran announced that the restrictions apply to all types of vessels, including merchant and oil tankers.

“Any vessel attempting to pass through the strait will be targeted,” the IRGC said.

Against this backdrop, the Iranian military has again threatened the US with further escalation. IRGC Aerospace Force Commander Seyed Hossein Mousavi Eftekhari said the conflict could spread to the entire region if tensions continue to rise.

At the same time, the US Central Command denied information about the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Washington emphasized that commercial shipping has not stopped, and ships continue to use the route.

“The claims of a complete closure of the strait are untrue,” the US military said.

Iranian state media has also reported possible incidents involving American and Iranian forces in the strait, including the damage to two ships. The US has not confirmed these reports, saying that no American warships were damaged.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important sea lanes, carrying a significant portion of the world’s oil exports. Any threats to its operation could impact global energy markets and international trade.

Recall that on the night of June 11, the United States continued its military operation against Iran and launched a new series of strikes on facilities that, according to the American side, are related to the country’s defense infrastructure.

As previously reported, the US launched new strikes on Iranian territory after an Iranian drone shot down an American AH-64 Apache attack helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz .
