Telegram attacks: Zheleznyak reveals information campaign scheme

MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak announced systematic discrediting information campaigns launched through a network of connected Telegram channels and media. Politicians, journalists, and public figures are under attack.

According to the deputy, among those attacked were journalist Yuriy Nikolov, head of the Anti-Corruption Center Vitaliy Shabunin, former head of Ukrenergo Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, as well as MPs Viktoria Siumar, Mykola Kniazhytskyi, Andriy Zhupanyn, and Zheleznyak himself.

He described a typical scheme of such campaigns. First, a so-called “seed” appears in Telegram channels – an initial post that creates an informational occasion. Then it is picked up by other channels and bloggers, after which the information is massively distributed in social networks and Facebook groups.

The next stage, he said, is scaling through large Telegram channels and publications in online media. The campaign will conclude with a second rollout, including in Russian, to reach a wider audience.

Zheleznyak claims that this model is used regularly – several times a week. In particular, it is used against NABU, SAPO, or critics of certain state decisions.

Separately, the MP linked the information attacks to criticism of energy procurement. He stated that this concerns, in particular, equipment of Russian origin, and suggested centralized financing of such campaigns.

As previously reported, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy recommended for first reading a draft on regulating the activities of information sharing platforms , including Telegram.
