Deputy Commander of the RDK Stepan Kaplunov told his version of events after the kidnapping, ten days of no contact, and the shooting between the GUR and the SBU that occurred after his return home.
He said this in an interview with Radio NV political commentator Yulia Zabelina.
It is known that he was knocked to the ground near his house, handcuffed and forcibly put into a black BMW. At the same time, he was not explained the reason for his detention and no charges were brought. Subsequently, the man was transferred to other vehicles twice – first to a minivan, and then, as he assumes, to an SUV.
After that, Kaplunov was taken to a facility that he considers a regime or secret prison. There, he was placed in a cell, handcuffed and chained. The soldier’s eyes were taped shut, so he remained blindfolded for 24 hours. Later, Kaplunov realized that he was being held by SBU officers.
He spent the next ten days without contact with the outside world. Kaplunov claims that during interrogations he was asked about possible contacts with the FSB. In his opinion, this could have been aimed at discrediting the “Timur” special unit of the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
After ten days, the soldier was brought home, where law enforcement officers searched his apartment. That same night, a shootout occurred in the yard between the State Security Service and the Security Service of Ukraine. Kaplunov himself was in the apartment and only heard the shots. Three of his comrades were injured as a result of the shooting.
In particular, during the interview, Kaplunov also spoke about his service in Ukraine, which he began in 2014. After being seriously wounded in 2022 and recovering, he joined the RDK. In addition, they talked about the unit’s combat operations, Kirill Budanov, Kaplunov’s relatives in the Russian Federation, and whether he plans to return to the front.
