Trump Claims Both Putin and Zelenskyy Want a Peace Meeting—While Skipping New Sanctions and Chatting Territorial Deals

This is reported by CNN.

US President Donald Trump confirmed in a Fox News interview that both Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy want him to attend an upcoming meeting to discuss a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine.

“They both want me to be there, and I will be there,” Trump said.

When asked about the timeline for achieving peace, he replied that it could happen “quite quickly.”

Trump also acknowledged that he had underestimated the difficulty of resolving the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, referencing his campaign promise to end the war in 24 hours.

“I thought it would be the easiest of all, and it turned out to be the hardest,” he admitted.

The US president announced that he currently refuses to impose new sanctions or other “serious consequences” on Russia, based on the results of his meeting with Putin.

“Because of what happened today, I don’t have to think about it now. Maybe in two or three weeks I’ll have to reconsider, but not now,” Trump said. Previously, he had threatened to impose tough sanctions to pressure Putin to end the war.

Regarding the content of the negotiations, Trump stated that he and Putin “largely” agreed on territorial exchanges and certain security guarantees for Ukraine.

“I think we agreed on a lot. The meeting was warm,” he said, describing Putin as a “strong guy” and “tough as hell.”

At the same time, the US president emphasized that the final decision rests with Ukraine: “Ukraine must agree. We must make a deal.”

When asked to assess the summit, Trump rated the meeting a “10” in terms of the level of understanding between the two countries.

“We got along great. It’s a big deal, especially for nuclear powers. We’re number one, they’re number two in the world,” he added.

By the way, Russian President Vladimir Putin, after talks with Donald Trump in Alaska, said that a solution to the war in Ukraine is possible only after eliminating its “fundamental causes” and restoring the balance of security in Europe. He called the meeting “mutually respectful” and invited the American leader to the next summit in Moscow.

It is worth adding that US President Donald Trump, after talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska, said that the summit was constructive and gave reason for optimism. He announced consultations with NATO and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, but stressed that there are no final agreements yet.
