The United States has proposed a peace framework under which Ukraine would be required to scale down its armed forces and give up part of its weapons arsenal as a condition for ending the war.

The United States has signaled to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that Kyiv should accept the peace framework proposed by Washington.
The key provisions of this plan include a reduction in the size of Ukraine’s Armed Forces and the relinquishment of certain categories of weapons, though the specific types have not been disclosed. Washington insists that Kyiv agree to these terms.
According to the proposal, such concessions would ultimately result in territorial losses in Ukraine’s eastern regions.
At the same time, the Financial Times article also mentions other demands, including the renunciation of territories in the East, a reduction in US military aid, recognition of the Russian language as the state language, and official status for the local branch of the Russian Orthodox Church.
According to a senior Ukrainian official, Kyiv had no involvement in drafting these proposals.
And while diplomatic efforts to end the war are gaining momentum, Russia shows no interest in a genuine settlement. Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin continues to insist on sweeping territorial concessions that Ukraine considers entirely unacceptable.

As a reminder, the Donald Trump administration sent a high-ranking delegation from the Pentagon to Ukraine to participate in negotiations on possible ways to end the war.
