Thanks to biotechnology, I will live forever: Putin made a strange statement in a conversation with Xi Jinping
Amidst the celebrations in Beijing marking the 80th anniversary of the victory over Japan in World War II, an unexpected moment has caused quite a stir. While climbing Tiananmen Gate, the leaders of China, Russia and North Korea — Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un — were accidentally recorded on a microphone during a personal conversation that focused on longevity and even potential immortality.
This is stated in the Bloomberg article.
The audio recording, which lasted less than a minute, captured excerpts of a conversation between the three authoritarian leaders. First, Xi Jinping, speaking in Chinese, mentions: “Today… 70 years…” — after which the interpreter conveys in Russian: “Previously, rarely anyone lived to be 70, but today at 70 they are still a child.”
To this, judging by his gestures, Putin responds with something, but his words are not clearly audible. The translator adds in Chinese:
“With the development of biotechnology, human organs can be transplanted constantly, people can become younger, and perhaps even achieve immortality.”
After that, the Korean translator mentions organs and transplantation, and the final phrase is again spoken by Xi Jinping:
“There are predictions that in this century it will be quite possible to live to 150 years old.”
This dialogue, which took place minutes before Xi’s official speech on China’s victory over Japanese aggression, was a rare example of informal communication between the three leaders, who usually operate under strict protocol.
The special attention to the topic of longevity is further enhanced by the fact that none of the three have named a successor:
Xi Jinping, 72, has lifted term limits and is preparing for a potential fourth term in 2027.
Putin, also 72, changed the Russian Constitution to stay in power until 2036.
And 41-year-old Kim Jong-un recently took his daughter to Beijing, which only fueled rumors of dynastic succession.
As reported, North Korea has declared its readiness to assist Russia in the military sphere if the need arises . This was discussed during a meeting between the leaders of the two countries, Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un.
