The 2026 Paralympics have ended: Ukraine took seventh place overall and won 19 medals

On Sunday, March 15, 2026, the 2026 Winter Paralympic Games concluded in the Italian cities of Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. The Ukrainian national team finished the competition in 7th place in the final medal standings, winning 19 awards.

This was reported by the International Paralympic Committee.

The final performance for Ukraine at these Games was a silver medal in cross-country skiing. In the individual 20 km freestyle race, the silver medal was won by Oleksandr Kazik and his guide Serhiy Kucheryavy, representing Vinnytsia region. The athletes competed in the visually impaired athletes class.

This is the third award for this tandem at the 2026 Paralympics. They have one gold and two silver medals to their name at the Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.

In total, the Ukrainian team finished the Paralympics with 19 medals : 3 gold, 8 silver, and 8 bronze . Almost all of the awards were won by Ukrainian athletes in parabiathlon, while several more medals were won in cross-country skiing.

A separate achievement for the team was the silver medal in the mixed cross-country ski relay. The silver medalists in the 4×2.5 km discipline were Pavlo Bal, Taras Rad, Oleksandra Kononova, and Lyudmila Lyashenko.

The largest number of awards among Ukrainian athletes at these Games was won by Oleksandra Kononova . She has 5 medals of various categories.

Gold medals for Ukraine at the 2026 Paralympics were won by:

  • Taras Rad — parabiathlon, sprint (sitting class);
  • Alexandra Kononova — parabiathlon, sprint (standing class);
  • Oleksandr Kazik, together with guide Serhiy Kucheryavy, is a parabiathlon, sprint (class for athletes with visual impairment).

Silver medals were won by:

  • Oleksandr Kazik and Serhiy Kucheryavyi — parabiathlon, pursuit race; cross-country skiing, 20 km (visual impairment);
  • Yaroslav Reshetynskyi together with guide Dmytro Dragun — parabiathlon, sprint (visual impairment);
  • Maksym Murashkovskyi together with guide Vitaly Trush — parabiathlon, individual race (visual impairment);
  • Taras Rad — parabiathlon, pursuit race (sitting class);
  • Iryna Bui — parabiathlon, pursuit race (standing class);
  • Hryhoriy Vovchynskyi — parabiathlon, pursuit race (standing class);
  • Pavlo Bal, Taras Rad, Oleksandra Kononova and Lyudmila Lyashenko — cross-country skiing, mixed relay 4×2.5 km.

Bronze awards were won by:

  • Oleksandra Kononova — parabiathlon, individual race; parabiathlon, pursuit race; cross-country skiing, 20 km (standing class);
  • Anatoliy Kovalevskyi together with guide Oleksandr Mukshin — parabiathlon, sprint and pursuit race (visual impairment);
  • Lyudmila Lyashenko — parabiathlon, sprint (standing class);
  • Taras Rad — parabiathlon, individual race (sitting class);
  • Dmytro Suyarko, together with guide Oleksandr Nikonovich, parabiathlon, individual race (visual impairment).

In the overall medal standings, the Chinese team won 44 medals : 15 gold, 13 silver, and 16 bronze. The US team took second place with 24 awards . Ukraine finished the Games in 7th place.

The result of the Ukrainian national team at the Games in Italy was the worst in the last 20 years . The last time the team demonstrated a similar result was at the 2006 Paralympics in Turin. Ukrainian athletes won fewer awards only at the first two Winter Paralympics with the participation of Ukraine.

Ukraine’s results at the Winter Paralympic Games :

  • Nagano 1998 — 0 gold, 2 silver, 7 bronze — 9 medals (14th place);
  • Salt Lake City 2002 — 0, 6, 6 — 12 (18th place);
  • Turin-2006 — 7, 9, 9 — 25 (3rd place);
  • Vancouver 2010 — 5, 8, 6 — 19 (4th place);
  • Sochi 2014 — 5, 9, 11 — 25 (4th place);
  • Pyeongchang-2018 — 7, 7, 8 — 22 (6th place);
  • Beijing 2022 — 11, 10, 8 — 29 (2nd place);
  • Milan-2026 — 3, 8, 8 — 19 (7th place).

The next Winter Paralympic Games are scheduled for 2030 in the French Alps.

It was reported the day before that Ukrainian athlete Oleksandra Kononova won a bronze medal in the women’s 20 km standing cross-country skiing event at the 2026 Winter Paralympic Games in Italy. This award became Ukraine’s 18th medal at the tournament.

By the way, the Ukrainian national team won a silver medal in the mixed relay in para-skiing at the 2026 Paralympic Games in Milan-Cortina. This award became the 17th medal of the Ukrainian team at the current Paralympics.

Recall that Ukrainian athletes won three awards in the parabiathlon sprint pursuit at the 2026 Paralympic Games . The team’s assets were added to two silver and one bronze medals.
