The Ukrainian Air Force warns that today, June 12, there is a threat of Russia using the Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile during the day. Such missiles are usually launched from the Kapustin Yar test site in the Russian Federation.

This was reported by the press service of the Air Force.

It is known that the Kapustin Yar test site is located in the northeastern part of the Astrakhan region of Russia. The distance from it to the internationally recognized borders of Ukraine is about 500 kilometers.

In 1960, a missile forces training center was established at the training ground. Since then, short- and medium-range missiles, cruise missiles, as well as air defense complexes and systems have been tested there.

In recent days, Ukrainian monitoring channels have reported during air alerts about the probable preparation of the launch of the Oreshnik missile from the Kapustin Yar test site.

At the same time, military-political observer of the Information Resistance group Oleksandr Kovalenko notes that during the full-scale war, Russia repeatedly used the threat of using certain types of weapons as a tool for psychological pressure on the population of Ukraine.

In his opinion, simulating activity at the Kapustin Yar test site could be one way to create a psychological effect without actually launching a missile.

The expert also emphasized that Ukrainian surveillance equipment may detect a missile not immediately after launch, but at a certain stage of flight. That is why citizens are advised not to ignore air raid sirens and, in case of danger, immediately head for shelters.

Previously, “Pryamiy” reported that Russia used the Oreshnik missile during a strike on the Lviv region in the winter of 2026. According to the results of the analysis of the fragments, some of the electronic components of the missile were manufactured in 2014–2016.

In addition, on the night of May 24, Russia likely launched two RS-26 Rubizh (“Oreshnik”) medium-range ballistic missiles during a massive attack on Ukraine. Preliminary reports suggest that one of the missiles may have landed in the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk Oblast.
