The Armed Forces of Ukraine have new successes on the front: where did the Ukrainian military manage to advance?

In recent days, the Ukrainian Defense Forces have made advances in several directions at once – in the Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Zaporizhia regions. At the same time, Russian troops have failed to achieve confirmed successes in a number of sections of the front.

This is stated in a report by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) dated September 23. Analysts note that the Ukrainian military continues counterattacks and at the same time makes it difficult for the Russians to supply and conduct offensive operations.

In Kharkiv Oblast, Russian forces continued to attack in the north of the region, but had no confirmed advance. In the Kupyansk area, by contrast, Ukrainian forces recently advanced west of Kalinovoye.

According to geolocation data, the Defense Forces have pushed back Russian troops from positions west of Kalynovo. Ukrainian troops are also operating near the settlement itself and north of Kindrashivka. This allows them to improve their positions on the flanks of Kupyansk.

In Sumy Oblast, the Russians continued their attempts to advance in the north of the region on September 22 and 23. However, the Ukrainian military prevented them from developing an offensive.

ISW also notes that Russian forces are using small-group infiltration tactics. According to analysts, such actions are leading to significant losses for Russian forces. In addition, the occupiers have carried out airstrikes on Sumy.

In Donetsk region, Ukrainian forces have made progress near Chasovye Yar. According to ISW, they have advanced in the eastern and central parts of Molocharky, a settlement southwest of Chasovye Yar and north of Kostyantynivka.

The advance of the Defense Forces east of Stinka, located northeast of Kostyantynivka, was also recorded.

Analysts noted another Ukrainian success south and southeast of Novopavlivka. At the same time, in this area, Russian troops also advanced or maintained their positions southeast of the settlement.

In the Zaporizhia direction, the Defense Forces have advanced in the Oleksandrivka area. Ukrainian military also maintain or improve their positions in the southern part of Orikhiv.

Russian forces also attempted to penetrate northeast of Orekhov. However, their offensive in the Hulyaipol area on September 22–23 did not yield any confirmed advances, according to ISW. Ukrainian forces also destroyed two Russian BTR-80s with approximately 20 soldiers in the mechanized attack.

Separately, analysts note the Defense Forces’ strikes on Russian logistics in the occupied part of the Zaporizhzhia region. Ukrainian drones attacked Russian trucks on the Mariupol-Berdyansk highway, complicating the movement of military cargo and equipment.

Thus, according to ISW, Ukrainian forces have made local advances in several directions in recent days, while Russian troops continue to attempt to attack, but have failed to achieve confirmed successes in a number of areas. At the same time, the situation on the front remains dynamic, and data on control over individual areas may change.
