The Armed Forces of Ukraine revealed the number of foreign volunteers in the army: almost half are from Colombia

Representatives of 72 countries serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Almost half are from South American countries.

This was told by Kostyantyn Milevsky, an officer of the coordination department for military service by foreigners in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, for Hromadske.

It is noted that at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, 100-150 foreigners per month joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Currently, this figure has reached approximately 600.

“We can say that the percentage of presence of other citizens in the Armed Forces of Ukraine has increased. This was also influenced by the fact that the Foreign Recruitment Center has already begun full-fledged work here,” said Milevsky.

Over 8,000 foreign volunteers have already joined the Land Forces. This figure is apparently at least twice as high across all branches of the Armed Forces.

It is noted that “a lot” of foreign volunteers are currently joining the Ukrainian army, in particular, Colombian citizens, from whom separate units are being created. Their motivations are different. The material factor also plays an important role.

“Indeed, they themselves have admitted many times that the level of wages in the Armed Forces of Ukraine is currently significantly higher than in their Armed Forces. But these are also people with military experience, and so they want to continue what they did in their countries and improve this experience here. And of course, receive a decent salary for it,” added Kostyantyn Milevsky.

It was previously reported that Ukraine has simplified the recruitment of foreigners into the Armed Forces.
