The Armed Forces of Ukraine strengthened the defense line in the Zaporizhia direction

Ukrainian defense forces have improved their positions in the west of Zaporizhia region, advancing south of Stepnohirsk and strengthening the defense line in this direction.

This is reported by the Institute for the Study of War.

According to analysts, geolocation videos released on December 14-15 confirm the advance of Ukrainian units south of Stepnohirsk, which is located west of Orikhiv. ISW notes that these actions are tactical but important in nature and allow the Armed Forces of Ukraine to level and strengthen the front line.

Analysts emphasize that the improvement of the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine complicates the plans of Russian troops to approach Zaporizhia within the range of cannon artillery and creates additional pressure on the occupier units.

At the same time, Russian troops are trying to counterattack west of Orekhov, in particular in the areas of Novoandreyevka, Shcherbaky, Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, and towards Pavlivka. The enemy is involving units of the 7th Airborne Division in the fighting and is actively using drones to strike Ukrainian positions.

The goal of the Russian troops remains to hold the front line, protect the rear areas, and attempt to advance for further shelling of Zaporizhia.

It was previously reported that the Defense Forces are developing an operation to regain control over Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region – the Russians there remained virtually blocked.

As a reminder, the American Institute for the Study of War reported that Russia is declaring its intention to reject Ukrainian and European amendments to the peace plan to end the war against Ukraine.
