The Armed Forces of Ukraine thwarted the Russian offensive in the Pokrovska and Dobropillya areas: what is known about the situation on the front

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have thwarted a Russian offensive operation in the Pokrovska and Dobropillya areas. Ukrainian units inflicted significant losses on the occupiers and deprived the enemy of the opportunity to launch a full-fledged offensive in this direction.

This was reported by the press service of the President’s Office.

Zelensky noted that one of Ukraine’s counteroffensive operations is currently underway in the Donetsk region. According to him, the fighting in the Pokrovsk and Dobropillya areas was “fierce”, but thanks to the actions of the defenders, the enemy suffered significant losses.

The President provided operational data on Russian losses: in the Pokrovsk region alone over the past few weeks, over 2,500 people have been killed, including more than 1,300. It is these losses, according to Zelensky, that deprive the occupier of the ability to carry out the planned offensive.

During his stay in Donetsk region, Zelensky presented state awards to servicemen who distinguished themselves in these battles. The President thanked the “guys” and noted the coordinated work of various branches of the armed forces: Airborne Assault Units (AAU), assault regiments and battalions, infantry, reconnaissance, artillery, units of the National Guard, and those providing the unmanned component. According to the Head of State, it was the coordination of all these forces that made it possible to achieve an important operational success.

Zelensky stressed that the thwarting of the offensive in the Pokrovsko-Dobropol direction is “an important success for Ukraine.” He emphasized that Ukraine’s defense remains active and capable of repelling, and the task of forcing Russia to make peace will become real with sufficient strength of the Ukrainian army and conscientious support from partners.

The President called on the allies to “act with dignity” – to increase sanctions pressure on Russia and provide long-range fire support, which is necessary for further operations.

Separately, Zelenskyy appealed to international partners and called on the world to strengthen sanctions and pressure on Russia, as well as provide Ukraine with the necessary means to strengthen its long-range and defensive capabilities. The President believes that only a combination of Ukraine’s military power and decisive actions by the international community will be able to force the aggressor to recognize reality and compromise.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Russia is preparing two new offensive operations for the fall . The Ukrainian military has already thwarted two large-scale enemy offensives in the summer, and the outcome of the third campaign will become clear in the coming days.
