The army will switch to a contract form: Zelensky announced plans to maintain an 800,000-strong army after the war

Ukraine plans to maintain the number of troops at the level of 800,000 personnel in the post-war period or after a ceasefire, but the army will transition from a mobilization form to a contract one.

This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky, quoted by Ukrainska Pravda.

“We will protect our army – 800 thousand – which we talked about, transfer it after the end of the war or after the ceasefire from a mobilization to a contract army… Those who want to,” the president said.

As he emphasized, the state will encourage people to sign contracts with the help of high salaries.

Zelensky has also already determined the salary level for military personnel on the front lines. He told Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov about this, but did not publicly disclose the amount.

“Even during a ceasefire, salaries on the front line should be several times higher. We are talking about this, we will calculate all this, to what extent we are able to do it,” the head of state noted.

He noted that for this, Ukraine will need financial support from European partners.

As reported, as part of a peace agreement proposed by the United States, Ukraine must reduce the size of its army and abandon some weapons.
