The authorities must report on the results of the previous Recovery Conferences – Rostyslav Pavlenko

The only measure of the government’s activities should be the result, said Rostyslav Pavlenko, a member of parliament from the European Solidarity faction, at a briefing.

He noted that international events are turning into meaningless PR events. Instead, the authorities are blocking foreign visits by the leader of the “EU” Petro Poroshenko, despite official invitations from Western partners, in particular to the Conference on the Restoration of Ukraine in Rome.

“Unfortunately, the authorities continue to treat their tenure as a show. We remember how Ms. Svyrydenko said that in 10 years Ukraine’s GDP should be a trillion. This was later picked up by President Zelensky in 2023, he talked a lot about it. At previous conferences, Mr. Shurma, for example, called for a complete abandonment of cash. But this promise also remained a promise. We heard Stefanyshyna and Shmyhal say that Ukraine could join the European Union in two years, only in two years they were unable to reach the opening of the relevant chapters of the Agreement with the European Union,” Pavlenko stated.

He emphasized the limitations on Poroshenko’s activities in his international initiatives.

“Once again, he has been denied participation in an international conference, despite the fact that he has an invitation from the speaker of the Italian parliament. And despite the fact that every event with Poroshenko’s participation ends with a result in favor of Ukraine – either with the adoption of a relevant document, or the beginning of a working process that ends with investment in Ukraine, support for Ukraine. But the authorities probably don’t need all this,” Pavlenko states.

The People’s Deputy suggested that the conference in Rome has every chance of remaining a “PR event” where “promises of tens of billions of investments” will once again be made.

“But the decision of the investment company BlackRock to stop looking for investors for Ukraine, because it does not see any prospects in this, is not even a bell, but a significant bell. We can read between the lines that the investment climate that the current government has built in the country is not conducive to investments. A large part of the problem is the violation of democratic norms and the construction of an authoritarian regime, which the world’s media is now talking about,” Rostyslav Pavlenko noted.

“So far, we see that Zelensky, Yermak’s office, and all the “office managers” see their biggest task as preserving their monopoly in power,” the deputy said.

“The authorities are approaching this large and significant conference, effectively killing the faith of foreign investors that Ukraine can remain democratic and trying to cover up for Ukrainian citizens their inability to work and ensure results with another PR show. We will submit requests for the authorities to report on previous conferences – how effectively the funds for the participation of the Ukrainian delegation that was brought were used. And to report on violations of the rights of the opposition,” Pavlenko summarized.
