Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk won the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid on May 2, defeating “neutral” tennis player Mirra Andreeva in the final. This title was the greatest achievement in the Ukrainian’s career.

In the final match of the WTA 1000 tournament in the Spanish capital, Marta Kostyuk defeated the “neutral” eighth seed in the world, Mirra Andreeva, in straight sets, 6:3, 7:5.
In the second set, the Ukrainian tennis player was trailing 1:3 and losing with a break. In addition, Kostyuk was able to win 2 set points on her serve in the 10th game, after which she made a break and ended the match with a victory on her own serve.
This was the second face-to-face meeting between the tennis players. In January 2026, Marta Kostyuk also defeated Andreeva in the quarterfinals of the WTA 500 tournament in Brisbane.
The title in Madrid was the third in the Ukrainian athlete’s career. Previously, Kostyuk won the WTA 250 tournaments in Austin in 2023 and the WTA 250 in Rouen in 2026.
It was previously reported that the final of the WTA 1000 tournament will be held in Madrid , where the second racket of Ukraine Marta Kostyuk (WTA 23) and “neutral” Mirra Andreeva (WTA 8) will play.
