Russian propaganda is spreading false information that radioactive materials from the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone are allegedly being used during the construction of defense lines in the Kyiv and Sumy regions.

This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.

The Center emphasized that such statements have no evidence. As noted, the authors of the post refer only to one pro-Kremlin “military expert” who has previously repeatedly spread fake news about Ukraine.

The Central Nuclear Safety Commission emphasized that Ukraine adheres to international nuclear safety norms and standards, and fortifications are built from certified materials and in accordance with technical requirements.

According to the Center, the goal of this campaign is to create the impression that Ukraine is allegedly neglecting nuclear safety issues, as well as to divert attention from Russia’s actions.

The Central Intelligence Agency noted that such informational intrusions are part of a broader disinformation campaign around the Zaporizhzhia NPP. They recalled that Russia had previously unfoundedly accused Ukraine of strikes on the territory of the plant.

The Center also drew attention to the fact that it was Russia’s actions that repeatedly created threats to nuclear safety, in particular after the attack by a Russian drone on the Centralized Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.
