A network of accounts has appeared in the Polish segment of TikTok, which are using artificial intelligence to spread fake stories about Ukrainians. The Center for Countering Disinformation warns that such a campaign may fuel xenophobic sentiments and worsen attitudes towards Ukrainian refugees.
This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.
According to the CPD, the authors of such videos pass them off as humorous content. The videos feature a fictional young Ukrainian woman who allegedly moved to Warsaw. The character, created by a neural network, complains about the “small” social benefits, seeks out a wealthy Pole, and displays other stereotypical traits. Some videos have already garnered over a million views.
The Center emphasizes that despite the humorous format, such content can influence public opinion. It exploits sensitive social topics and creates a negative image of Ukrainians among the Polish audience.
The CPD also reminded that this is not the first such case. Previously, a network of fake pages with “dating ads” was discovered in the Polish segment of Facebook, where caricatures of Ukrainian women were created using artificial intelligence.
