Ukrposhta CEO Ihor Smilyanskyi reacted to the decision of the National Bank, which recognized him as not meeting the requirements for the head of a financial payment services provider. The company’s head called the NBU’s actions a “settlement of scores” and stated that he will appeal this decision.
Smilyansky wrote about this on his social networks.
According to him, the conflict is related to the creation of a postal bank. He claims that every time Ukrposhta gets close to implementing this project, the National Bank finds a way to stop it.
“Now, when there are only a few days left before the law comes into force, and Ukrposhta has over two billion hryvnias of equity and is operating at a profit, the NBU has decided to take a more radical path – to fire Smilyansky,” he said.
Smilyansky said that the company’s legal team will study the documents and determine further steps. Ukrposhta also plans to inform the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the International Monetary Fund about the situation.
The head of the company sharply criticized the regulator’s decision.
“To put it in my language, this is complete crap and, importantly, using one’s position to settle personal scores,” Smilyansky wrote.
He also stated that he intends to defend his reputation in Ukrainian and international courts.
As a reminder, the National Bank of Ukraine recognized the General Director of JSC Ukrposhta, Ihor Smilyansky, as not meeting the requirements for professional suitability. The company must replace the head in accordance with the regulator’s decision.
