On Ukraine’s Independence Day, August 24, a meeting of the “Coalition of the Willing” will be held in Kyiv with the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Its co-chairs will be French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and British Prime Minister Andy Burnham.

This is reported by Reuters and Le Figaro.

The meeting will be held in a hybrid format – some participants will be present in person, others will join via video link. European Council President António Costa will participate in person, while NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska will join remotely.

The meeting will be co-chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and British Prime Minister Andy Burnham. According to journalists, Volodymyr Zelenskyy will also participate in the meeting. At the same time, the French side did not specify the exact composition of the participants who will be present in Kyiv in person.

The talks will take place against the backdrop of intensifying Russian attacks on Ukraine and Kyiv’s calls for partners to increase support.

Strengthening Ukraine’s air defenses due to a shortage of interceptor missiles is expected to be a key issue. Participants are also expected to discuss continued support for Ukraine and measures to reduce Russia’s resources to finance the war, including combating its “shadow fleet.”

Macron’s office said the leaders should reaffirm “the determination to strengthen support for Ukraine so that it can defend itself against Russian aggression.”

Separately, the participants will continue to work on security guarantees for Ukraine, which should contribute to the establishment of a “just, reliable and lasting peace.”
