President Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine posthumously to the commander of the United Assault Brigade of the National Police of Ukraine “Lyut” Maksym Kazban.

This became known from the presidential decree of July 25.

The document notes that Kazban was awarded the highest state award “for personal courage and heroism demonstrated in the defense of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, selfless service to the Ukrainian people.” Along with the title of Hero of Ukraine, the police colonel was posthumously awarded the Order of the Gold Star.

Maksym Kazban led the assault brigade “Lyut”, which is part of the National Police of Ukraine and actively participates in combat operations against the Russian occupiers. His death was a heavy loss for his brothers and the entire Ukrainian society.

Maksym Kazban died on July 22 in a traffic accident in Donetsk Oblast. He was the first deputy commander of the Lyut Brigade and fought in eastern Ukraine since 2014. The serviceman took charge of the Lyut Brigade in September 2024 and has been participating in Ukrainian Armed Forces operations since 2022.
