The court has chosen a preventive measure for the suspect in the murder of two schoolchildren in Vinnytsia region

A court in Vinnytsia has sentenced a 23-year-old former teacher suspected of brutally murdering two minors in the city of Sharhorod to 60 days in custody without bail.

This was reported by the press service of the National Police.

It is noted that the court session was held in closed session at the request of the parties. Presiding judge Andriy Mykhaylenko granted the relevant motion of the prosecutor and lawyer. After reviewing the case materials, the court ruled to isolate the suspect for the duration of the pre-trial investigation.

According to the head of the regional prosecutor’s office, Oleg Tkalenko, the suspect is not currently admitting guilt in full and has refused to give detailed testimony, stating only that he had “hostile relations” with one of the victims.

“He and his defense attorney will determine their defense strategy in more detail, and will provide evidence either today or the next day. He has not revealed his motives yet. He previously explained that he had some general hostility that prompted him to take certain actions,” he said.

The prosecutor’s office emphasized that the crime was brazen and particularly cruel — in just 30–40 seconds, the attacker inflicted dozens of knife wounds on the children.

The accused’s lawyer, Oleksandr Matsyuk, declined to comment, citing the need for a deeper study of the case. At the same time, the investigation plans to conduct an additional psychiatric examination to establish the suspect’s sanity.

As is known, the bloody crime occurred on the morning of September 10 in the center of Shargorod, when 15- and 16-year-old boys were on their way to school. The attacker suddenly attacked the children with a knife, after which he tried to escape. He was detained an hour later – in a field near the city, about five kilometers from the crime scene.

Following the incident, investigators of the National Police opened a criminal case under the article on the intentional murder of two people. The sanction of the article provides for life imprisonment. Among the main versions of the motives is considered a personal conflict between the suspect and one of the deceased schoolchildren. The final circumstances of the crime are being clarified during the pre-trial investigation.
