The Defense of Pokrovska: How Not to Turn a Military Operation into a Political One

The situation around Pokrovsk is deteriorating, and it is possible that Ukrainian units may be gradually evacuated to avoid encirclement. At the same time, there is a risk of turning military tasks into political ones, which will inevitably lead to increased human losses.
This was reported on the air of “Pryamoy” by Ivan Stupak, a military analyst, SBU employee (2004-2015), commenting on data from open sources that differ from official reports.
“Perhaps, indeed, it is at this time that the gradual evacuation of our defenders from the city of Pokrovsk is taking place. And someone needs to restrain these claws so that they do not twitch and close over our army,” he noted.
Stupak added that, despite the General Staff’s statements about ongoing combat operations, analytical resources, such as the Deepstate map, record the complication of the situation every day. The presence of Russian forces is increasing and the “gray zone” in this direction is expanding.
At the same time, the analyst warned against turning a purely military operation into a political one, as the interference of political goals inevitably leads to increased casualties among military personnel. He emphasized that the military should not be prevented from doing their job, even in the absence of detailed information.
It was previously reported that the situation in Pokrovsk, Donetsk Oblast, remains difficult. Russian troops are seeking to create conditions there for a complete encirclement of the city .
Recall that Russian troops are actively strengthening their positions in Pokrovsk and accumulating resources capable of conducting surveillance and striking the entire settlement. Control over the key approaches to the city has not yet been achieved, which poses a serious threat to Ukrainian defenders.
