“The Devil Wears Prada 2”: Actress Names Estimated Release Date of Sequel
British actress Emily Blunt, best known for her role as Emily Charlton in the cult comedy The Devil Wears Prada (2006), has confirmed that filming for the sequel will begin next month.
Deadline writes about this.
During the informal interview, Blunt jokingly turned to her representative before sharing the news: “Can I say this? … You see how I’m dodging? I can’t tell you anything.” However, the actress noted that she will return to the role of her character, despite not having read the script yet: “It’s so weird. I don’t know where she is. I’m just like, ‘Where is she?’
The creators of the first film are also returning to work on the sequel: screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna is again responsible for the plot, and director David Frankel, according to preliminary information, will also take part in the project.
The premiere of the second part is scheduled for May 1, 2026 – by that time, exactly 20 years will have passed since the release of the original film, which has become a real classic. In the first film, Anne Getaway played the role of college graduate Andy Sachs, who got a job at the glossy magazine Runway , becoming an assistant to the influential editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep.
While the official cast has yet to be announced, both Streep and Getaway are expected to reprise their roles.
Details of the sequel’s plot have not yet been disclosed. At the same time, Lauren Weisberger’s second book, Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns (2013), tells the story of Andy’s future, who became an editor of a wedding magazine, is preparing for her own wedding, and lives in anxious anticipation of another meeting with Miranda Priestly.
