The education system will be changed in high school: what awaits students

The high school education system in Ukraine will be changed. Instead of the usual specialized classes, students will be able to choose subjects for in-depth study themselves, and study groups will be formed depending on their choices.

This was reported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

The first 150 schools to test the new model will be in September 2026. And from September 1, 2027, it is planned to be implemented throughout the country.

The main change is that the profile will no longer be tied to a specific class. For example, a student will be able to study law in depth, while his classmate will study biology or information technology. To do this, students from different classes will be combined into study groups.

The Ministry of Education and Science explains that if at least eight students from the same parallel want to study a certain subject, the school will have to open such a group. In addition, students will be able to choose several profiles at once in order of priority. If there are not enough applicants for the first direction or there are not enough places, they will be offered the next option.

The ministry notes that the new system should give high school students more opportunities to study according to their own interests. At the same time, schools will have to plan their schedules, teaching load, and classroom use in a new way.
