The end of dependence on China: Ukraine is testing its own Mavic analogue
A large-scale transformation of the unmanned sector is underway in Ukraine: the state is preparing its own alternative to the Chinese Mavic drones, launching a digital Mission Control system, and forming special units to destroy enemy UAV operators.
This was stated by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov.
According to Fedorov, one of the key tasks is to reduce the critical dependence on Chinese drones, which are widely used on the front.
He noted that testing of the new solution will begin this month. It is a Ukrainian analogue of the Mavic with the same camera, but with a longer flight range. This should enhance reconnaissance and fire control capabilities on the battlefield.
The Minister emphasized that thanks to the eBall system, the Ministry of Defense already has a complete understanding of where, how, and with what effectiveness drones are used on the front.
The next stage will be the launch of the Mission Control system. It will allow for centralized tracking of drone types, their flight routes, launch points, and the effectiveness of combat missions. This way, the state will be able to cover the entire cycle of work with drones — from procurement and delivery to actual combat use.
Fedorov said that they have been working on the creation of Mission Control for almost two years. After the full launch of the system for drones, they plan to extend it to artillery units.
In addition, the Ministry of Defense will receive detailed analytics on drone crews: data on commanders, monthly ratings, and performance indicators of individual units. This, according to the minister, will allow management decisions to be made much faster and more accurately.
A separate area of work is countering Russian UAV operators. As Fedorov noted, Ukraine’s goal is to physically remove enemy drone operators from the battlefield.
For this purpose, specialized units are already being created that will focus specifically on their detection and destruction. The minister emphasized that the relevant combat experience already exists, and now it is planned to be scaled up.
Fedorov also spoke about the development of drone assault units, which have a different organizational structure and a new doctrine for using drones.
According to him, the Code 9.2 unit recently conducted a unique operation in Kupyansk, which proved the effectiveness of this format in practice.
“The future is behind drone assault units. You will hear a lot more about them,” the minister concluded.
Recall that Ukraine has begun testing several prototypes of domestic microwave weapons , which could become a new tool in the fight against drones.
As reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine has already reached the level of producing about a thousand interceptor drones per day to counter Russian attacks . At the same time, the number of drones produced exceeds the existing capabilities of mobile fire groups that can use them.
