On Monday, December 15, the European Union plans to adopt a decision to add another 40 vessels of the shadow fleet to the sanctions list against Russia. The decision is to be made during a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council.
This is reported by “European Truth” .
Before the start of the EU Council meeting, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaia Kallas, announced the preparation of a corresponding decision.
She said the sanctions would apply to additional vessels in Russia’s shadow fleet, as well as individuals who facilitate their activities.
“We will make a decision today on the shadow fleet vessels. We have 40 additional vessels, as well as their manuals,” said Kaia Kallas.
According to her, such steps are aimed at limiting Russia’s financial capabilities.
“These actions are being taken to deprive Russia of the means to finance this war,” added Kaia Kallas.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on the implementation of the NSDC decision to impose sanctions against 656 naval vessels that are part of Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet.” This is the largest sanctions package ever imposed against this part of the Russian fleet.
As a reminder, on Tuesday, November 25, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree introducing new sanctions. The restrictions apply to vessels that have been illegally exporting Ukrainian products from temporarily occupied ports since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
