The EU faction, at a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister for Culture Berezhnaya, called for an increase in salaries in the industry, which are currently the lowest in the country.

During a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy and Minister of Culture of Ukraine, Tetyana Berezhnaya, MPs from the European Solidarity faction raised the issues of low salaries of cultural workers, the preservation of historical heritage, and Russia’s responsibility for crimes against Ukrainian culture.

This was announced by Iryna Gerashchenko, co-chair of the European Solidarity faction.

According to her, during the meeting, the deputies discussed the salaries of librarians, museum workers, and workers in cultural centers, which today remain among the lowest in the country – at the level of 5-7 thousand hryvnias.

“We have a lot of appeals from librarians, museum workers, and employees of cultural centers, whose salaries are the lowest in the country, 5-7 thousand hryvnias. This way, we will destroy the industry and lose specialists,” Gerashchenko emphasized.

According to her, Tetyana Berezhna reported that the government plans to review the wage scales for cultural workers in the near future.

In addition, the meeting participants discussed the issues of preserving historical monuments and cultural values, the restoration of the Roman Shukhevych Museum in Bilogorshcha and the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, the recognition of Russia’s actions as cultural genocide, as well as the situation surrounding Alla Horskaya’s mosaic “The Bird” in Cherkasy region.

Gerashchenko also emphasized that European Solidarity considers it wrong to transfer cultural funding exclusively to local budgets and is ready to work on revising the state budget to support the industry.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to coordinate work on legislative initiatives, issues of restoring cultural heritage, and holding Russia accountable for crimes against Ukrainian culture.
