The EU Permanent Representatives Committee (Coreper) failed to agree on the 21st package of sanctions against Russia. Negotiations will continue on July 23.
This is reported by “European Truth” with reference to European Union diplomats.
According to the publication’s sources, the main reason for the lack of consensus was Greece’s position. Athens insists on excluding from the new package the ban on the provision of services for the transportation of Russian liquefied natural gas, in particular to third countries.
The issue of sanctions was first on the agenda of the Coreper meeting, but after several hours of discussion, EU member states were unable to reach a compromise.
As a result, it was decided to continue the negotiations on the morning of July 23.
By the way, Greece blocked the adoption of the 21st package of European Union sanctions against Russia due to restrictions that could affect the shipping company Dynagas, which transports Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG).
At the same time , Bulgaria is ready to support the 21st package of sanctions by the European Union against Russia after the Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Kirill and the founder of Lukoil Vagit Alekperov were removed from the proposed sanctions list.
