The EU has agreed on the 21st package of sanctions against Russia: when will it be approved?

The Committee of Permanent Representatives of the European Union (Coreper) has reached political agreement on the 21st package of sanctions against Russia. Its final approval is due on July 23 by written procedure.

This was reported by “European Pravda” with reference to an EU diplomat familiar with the progress of the negotiations.

According to the publication’s source, an extraordinary Coreper meeting began on the morning of July 23, during which EU member states were able to agree on the content of the new sanctions package. After that, a decision was made to approve it in the afternoon by written procedure.

According to the source, Greece has agreed to a compromise option, but its details are not yet disclosed. At the same time, technical refinement of the final text of the document is underway.

The written procedure is expected to be completed by July 23. This will allow the European Union to make a timely decision on freezing the “price ceiling” for Russian oil.

As a reminder, on July 15 and 22, EU countries failed to reach an agreement on the 21st package of sanctions. The main obstacle remained the position of Greece , which insisted on extending the permit for the re-export of Russian liquefied natural gas to third countries.

It was previously reported that the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the EU countries (Coreper) was unable to agree on the 21st package of sanctions against Russia , and the negotiations were decided to continue on July 23. It also became known that Bulgaria is ready to support the new sanctions package after the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Kirill, and the founder of Lukoil, Vagit Alekperov, were removed from the sanctions list.
