The Council of the European Union has extended for another year individual sanctions against individuals and organizations linked to Russia’s destabilizing and hybrid actions abroad.

The EU Council announced this.

The restrictions will remain in effect until at least October 9, 2027. The decision comes amid ongoing hybrid campaigns linked to the European Union and Russia, in particular foreign information manipulation and interference (FIMI).

The sanctions regime was established on October 8, 2024. It applies to 80 individuals and 20 entities. The list includes, among other things, representatives of Russian media, propagandists, bloggers, and other individuals associated by the EU with information and destabilization operations.

Sanctioned individuals and entities are subject to asset freezes. EU citizens and companies are prohibited from providing them with funds, financial assets, or economic resources.

As for individuals, a ban on entry into EU countries or transit through the Union territory also applies.

The European sanctions mechanism covers a wide range of hybrid threats, including interference in elections and democratic institutions, sabotage of economic activity and critical infrastructure, disinformation campaigns and cyber operations.

In June 2026, the European Council condemned recent hybrid attacks against the EU and its Member States and called for strengthening resilience to such threats and the protection of critical infrastructure.
