The European Union has approved another package of sanctions against Russia. The new restrictions target enterprises of the Russian military-industrial complex, companies associated with the shadow fleet, the oil business, and Kremlin propagandists.
This is stated in the EU Council statement.
In total, sanctions were imposed against 34 individuals and 47 organizations.
The European Union explained that the new package should weaken the Russian military machine, reduce Moscow’s profits from oil sales, and complicate the work of structures that help the Kremlin spread propaganda and circumvent existing restrictions.
According to the EU’s top diplomat, Kaia Kallas, the new sanctions should increase pressure on Russia to force it to end the war against Ukraine.
Among those hit by sanctions are manufacturers of drones and other military equipment, several companies that cooperate with the Russian defense sector, as well as structures related to the development of new military technologies.
Separately, the EU has cracked down on the shadow fleet that Russia uses to export oil in circumvention of international restrictions. More than two dozen companies involved in the transportation of Russian oil and petroleum products have been added to the sanctions list.
Also subject to restrictions were Russian propagandists, individuals involved in the spread of disinformation, and those involved in the case of the persecution of opposition figure Alexei Navalny.
Brussels has already announced the preparation of the next, 21st package of sanctions, which may become even more extensive.
As a reminder, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has implemented the decision of the National Security and Defense Council to impose sanctions against 10 Russian mobile operators and Internet providers . The restrictions include companies that provide communications for the occupation authorities and operate in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
