Ukraine’s accession to the European Union is indeed seen as a potential security guarantee, but accelerated membership by 2027 is not yet under discussion.

Radio Liberty reports this, citing two EU officials.

According to one source, during the December 11 meeting of the coalition of the willing, some participants did mention Ukraine’s EU membership as an important element of future security, but no one mentioned 2027 as a possible date for accession.

Another senior EU official stressed that such a date had no real basis:
“Both the US and Ukraine are happy with this clause in the peace plan—it costs nothing, just like the Russians. But it has nothing to do with reality.

The Financial Times previously reported that the draft peace agreement presented to the US by Ukraine and European officials allegedly stipulates Ukraine’s accession to the EU by January 1, 2027. This document also requires Brussels to review the entire enlargement process, including access to funds and voting rights.

According to the FT, US President Donald Trump may try to influence Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to lift his veto on Ukraine’s European integration.

It was previously reported that Ukraine sent a revised version of its peace plan to Washington following a phone call between US President Donald Trump and the leaders of Great Britain, France, and Germany.

As a reminder, US Vice President J.D. Vance stated that the war in Ukraine has proven more difficult than in the Middle East, although he expects good news in the near future .
