The EU has already agreed to open five clusters in Ukraine’s accession negotiations. The tentatively agreed date is July 14.
This is reported by “Ukrainian Truth”.
This date is currently not on the EU Council calendar, but it is already planned and has been previously discussed by European ministers.
European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Cos did not officially announce the date at a press conference after a meeting in Luxembourg on June 15, but hinted that the opening of the remaining clusters in negotiations with Ukraine could take place on July 14.
“Today is a mega Monday for me… I hope we will have an ‘incredible Tuesday’ in July,” the European Commissioner noted.
In particular, on June 15, negotiations between Europe and Ukraine within the first negotiation cluster took place in Luxembourg during the second EU Intergovernmental Conference.
The Cypriot presidency officially handed over to Ukraine the interim and final negotiating criteria (so-called “benchmarks”) in the form of the EU’s common negotiating position on the accession conditions.
Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Taras Kachka expressed confidence that all EU countries will support the opening of the remaining five negotiation clusters with Ukraine.
Previously, “Pryamiy” reported that Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Anita Orban stated that the negotiation process on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union may be suspended if Kyiv does not fulfill agreements regarding the rights of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia.
The European Union also expressed the opinion that, with sufficient political will, Ukraine could complete technical negotiations on EU accession in about four years. At the same time, European officials note that only 15% of the reforms envisaged in the agreed membership preparation plan have been implemented so far.
