EU Invests Over €1 Billion in Transport Infrastructure, Ukraine Included in the Program
Ukraine has become a participant in a new European Union program to develop transport infrastructure, under which more than €1.1 billion will be allocated. Moldova has also been included in the initiative, expanding the scope of EU-backed connectivity projects in the region.
This was announced by European Commission spokeswoman Anna-Kaisa Itkonen, reports “European Truth.”
According to her, the funding will be allocated within the framework of the development of the trans-European transport network TEN-T. The decision to include Ukraine and Moldova in the competition indicates further convergence of both countries’ transport systems with the European Union network.
The European Commission plans to support projects to modernize transport infrastructure. These include the development of high-speed rail connections, the renovation of seaports, the improvement of logistics routes, and the implementation of initiatives in military mobility.
Separate funding has been provided for the development of ecological transport. In particular, this concerns the electrification of freight transport, the creation of charging infrastructure at sea and river ports, and the modernization of airport ground services.
