The EU will allocate 10 million euros to Ukraine for mobile shelters: where will they be installed

Ukraine is counting on international support to install 840 mobile shelters in six frontline regions. The shelters are to appear on routes used by schoolchildren to reach educational institutions.

This was reported by the Ministry of Communities, Territories and Internally Displaced Persons.

These are Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson and Chernihiv regions. The needs of each region and the targeted distribution of future funding were presented to international partners during a meeting of the Civil Protection Shelter Coalition.

Ukrainian donor regions have already joined the project, but the available funds are not enough for its full implementation. Therefore, the Ukrainian side has turned to international partners with a proposal to join the financing.

“We have invited partners to join the project of arranging mobile shelters, which we plan to install on school bus routes. Ukrainian donor regions have already joined the project. At the same time, additional international funding is needed to cover all needs,” said Deputy Minister for European Integration Artem Husak.

At the same time, the European Union announced its intention to allocate 10 million euros for the construction of shelters throughout Ukraine. Other members of the Coalition are currently determining the possible amount of their financial assistance.

Ukraine will also continue negotiations with the Finnish government regarding support for the project. Finland, together with Ukraine, co-chairs the Shelter Coalition.

The initiative was launched by Ukraine and Finland in May 2025. Later, the EU, Lithuania, Belgium, Ireland, Sweden, Switzerland, and the European Investment Bank joined it.

The coalition is attracting international funding to modernize existing shelters and build new protective structures.

It was previously reported that Ukraine purchased 32 mobile shelters for gas infrastructure thanks to funding from the UK Foreign Office. 2.64 million euros were allocated for this.
