On Friday, September 20, the European Commission officially approved a new, 19th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation.

This was announced by European Commission spokeswoman Paula Pinho at a briefing in Brussels, The Guardian reports.

“I can confirm that the Commission has today approved the 19th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation,” she said.

Details of the restrictions will be made public later today, announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaia Kallas.

The new sanctions are expected to affect the sectors of the economy, defense technologies, finance, as well as participants in the Russian military and political vertical.

As a reminder, the progress of the next round of restrictions against Russia has unexpectedly slowed down in Brussels. The 19th package of sanctions, which was supposed to be presented on September 17, has been removed from the agenda. The European Commission has not yet announced a new date.

As reported later, European Commission spokeswoman Paula Pinheau commented on reports by some media outlets about the alleged postponement of the presentation of restrictive measures and denied information about a delay in preparing a new package of sanctions against Russia.

By the way, it is expected to cover the financial sector, cryptocurrency transactions and energy, continuing the policy of reducing dependence on Russian resources . The presentation of the restrictions may take place as early as September 19, but Brussels officially declares only “swift adoption.”
