The European Commission plans to abandon Russian oil by 2026

The European Commission plans to propose to EU member states to abandon purchases of Russian oil by the end of 2026.

This was stated by European Commission spokeswoman Anna-Kaisa Itkonen, Suspilne reports.

At the same time, Itkonen admitted that she cannot currently name “specific deadlines” for preparations for the final abandonment of procurement.

However, she claims, the European Commission hopes to make such decisions “in due time.”

“We are absolutely determined to complete the policy of transition to alternative energy sources, which consists in the gradual withdrawal of all Russian energy carriers from the EU market. It is obvious that oil and nuclear energy will complement this policy,” the press secretary emphasized.

Recall that in 2025 , the volume of pipeline oil supplies to Russian refineries decreased to the minimum level since 2010.

In addition, in India, oil refineries are reviewing their procurement strategy and plan to reduce oil imports from Russia , while instead increasing supplies from the Middle East and the United States.
