In Brussels, progress on the next round of restrictions against Russia has unexpectedly slowed down. The 19th package of sanctions, which was supposed to be presented on September 17, has been removed from the agenda. The European Commission has not yet announced a new date.

This is reported by Politico , citing a European diplomat.

“The 19th (sanctions package) since the start of Moscow’s war against Ukraine will not be presented on Wednesday… It was excluded from the agenda of the Committee of Permanent Representatives,” the publication quotes an EU source.

A European Commission spokesperson declined to comment on when exactly they might unveil the new package.

According to Politico, the postponement is due to pressure from the US and EU on Slovakia and Hungary to reduce their dependence on Russian oil.

Recall, Donald Trump previously stated that he was ready to move to the second stage of sanctions against Russia for waging war in Ukraine.

The United States has once again threatened Russia with sanctions if the Kremlin does not move towards a peaceful settlement.

Trump also stated that the Russian dictator’s reluctance to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would have “serious consequences” for Russia.
