European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen supported the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU.

She announced this at a press conference following the European Council meeting.

She noted that the EC supports the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.

“Under continuous fire, Ukraine is implementing reform after reform. That is why the Commission is in favor of opening the first block of negotiations. Ukraine has fulfilled its obligations – now we must fulfill them too,” the message says.

Von der Leyen added that the EU accession process is based on merit, and Ukraine deserves to move forward.

She also declared her strong support for Ukraine in both military and political spheres.

The President of the European Commission added that the EU has already allocated 1 billion euros to support the Ukrainian defense industry from Russian assets.

“We are on track to achieve the goal of transferring 2 million artillery shells to Ukraine in 2025. And we are ready to provide the remaining 11 billion euros from the G7 loans in advance, because we understand how important it is for Ukraine to receive these funds now,” Ursula von der Leyen noted.

Earlier , European Parliament President Roberta Metzola stated that Ukraine and Moldova have fulfilled all the necessary conditions to start the negotiation process for accession to the European Union .

By the way, in Poland the number of those who oppose Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and NATO has increased – there are now more of them than supporters.
