The European Parliament has refused to recognize the results of the Russian State Duma elections, which took place on September 18-20. MEPs said they do not consider the newly elected Russian parliament to be a legitimate body of government.

This is stated in the relevant resolution of the European Parliament.

In the document, the deputies condemned numerous violations during the voting. In particular, they stated about pressure on voters, intimidation of observers, and the actual destruction of democratic processes in Russia.

Separately, the European Parliament drew attention to the use of so-called international observers. According to the deputies, Russia involved them to create the appearance of the legitimacy of the elections and spread disinformation.

MEPs also condemned the holding of Russian elections in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, namely parts of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia, and Kherson regions.

The European Parliament emphasized that they do not recognize the State Duma formed as a result of these elections as a legitimate representative and legislative body of Russia.
