On Friday, September 12, the European Union extended sanctions against Russian individuals and entities related to the war in Ukraine for another 6 months.

This was reported by Reuters and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaia Kallas .

The European Union has imposed sanctions on more than 2,500 organizations and individuals, which include freezing bank accounts and banning entry into the territory of the union.

However, it is noted that the extension of the restrictions has sometimes been a difficult process, which Hungary has slowed down by demanding certain exceptions. However, these were rejected.

At the same time, according to Kallas, Brussels is finalizing work on the 19th package of sanctions against Russia. In particular, additional restrictions on shadow oil tankers, banks, and the sale of Russian oil are being considered.

In addition, the United Kingdom and Japan have introduced new sanctions against Russians.

British restrictions have placed 30 individuals and legal entities that supply electronics, chemicals, and explosives for the production of Russian weapons.

Instead, Japanese sanctions covered 47 companies and 9 individuals involved in the annexation of Crimea, the “destabilization” of Eastern Ukraine, and the accession of Ukrainian regions to Russia.

Japan imposed payment restrictions, imposed a ban on the export of goods for 11 companies. The ceiling price for oil was also lowered from 60 to 47.6 US dollars per barrel.

As a reminder, the European Commission and the United States of America plan to discuss ways to exert economic pressure on Russia.

The European Commission previously stated that sanctions against Russia will remain in place and will be strengthened as long as the aggression against Ukraine continues .

By the way, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the EU plans to adopt a new package of sanctions against Russia in September 2025.
