The Council of the European Union has imposed new sanctions against nine individuals responsible for the Bucha tragedy, which lasted from February to March 2022.

This was reported by the press service of the Council of Europe.

It is emphasized that these individuals are responsible for actions that undermine or threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence of Ukraine.

In particular, Colonel General Oleksandr Chayk, who was the commander-in-chief of the Russian army in Ukraine when the occupiers entered Bucha, was subject to restrictions.

In addition to him, sanctions were imposed on other high-ranking officials who led the occupation of Ukraine and committed war crimes in Gostomel, Irpen, and Borodyanka. As noted, they commanded Russian troops when they killed civilians, looted, and tortured people.

One person on the sanctions list also adopted a child from the Donetsk region deported by Russia.

“Their actions constitute crimes against humanity and war crimes,” the Council of Europe noted.

As a result of the sanctions, the assets of all nine individuals will be frozen, EU citizens and companies will be prohibited from providing them with funds. At the same time, they will not be able to stay in or transit through the European Union.

Separately, the EU Council imposed sanctions against four individuals for spreading Russian propaganda and disinformation to justify Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

Propagandists Sergei Klyuchenkov and Graham Phillips, Russian news anchor of Lithuanian origin Ernest Mackievicius, and media figure Adrien Boke have been placed under new European Union restrictions.

Zelensky recently signed a decree imposing sanctions against Russian judges who illegally sentenced Ukrainian prisoners of war.

As you know, on the fourth anniversary of the Russian invasion, February 24, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree introducing new sanctions against Russians.
