The European Union transferred equipment from an entire Lithuanian thermal power plant to Ukraine: the operation lasted almost a year.
The European Commission has organized a large-scale logistical operation to transfer equipment for a fully-fledged thermal power plant from Lithuania to Ukraine.
This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and the European Commission .
The supply operation lasted 11 months and included 149 shipments of equipment weighing nearly 2,400 tons. Among these were 40 oversized loads, including transformers and stators weighing approximately 172 tons each. The Polish government’s Strategic Reserves Agency also participated in the transportation.
The received equipment made it possible to carry out emergency repairs to energy facilities in several regions of Ukraine damaged by Russian strikes. According to the European Commission, this capacity is capable of providing electricity to approximately one million consumers.
Acting Energy Minister Artem Nekrasov thanked his partners for their assistance, noting that it significantly strengthened the resilience of the Ukrainian energy system, which continues to be subject to targeted attacks from Russia.
European Commissioner for Preparedness and Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib, called this supply the EU’s most complex logistics operation and an example of European solidarity in action. She stated that thanks to the support of Lithuania, Poland, Romania, and other partners, a million Ukrainians will be able to receive electricity and heat amid the fourth winter of full-scale war.
As a reminder, as a result of the Russian attack on the night of December 13 , electricity, water, and heat supplies were cut off in Odessa .
