The European Union transfers hundreds of generators from strategic reserves to Ukraine
The European Union is sending almost 450 emergency generators from strategic reserves to Ukraine amid massive Russian attacks on energy infrastructure.
This is reported by the European Commission.
The European Commission noted that more than a million Ukrainians were left without electricity, water and heating in sub-zero temperatures due to Russia’s continued attacks on energy facilities. In response, the European Union is today deploying 447 generators worth a total of €3.7 million from its strategic reserves to support hospitals, shelters and critical services.
Generators from the rescEU strategic reserves, which are located in Poland, will be distributed by the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine in cooperation with the Ukrainian Red Cross. The equipment will be distributed to the most affected communities.
The European Commission recalled that since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the EU has transferred about 10,000 generators to Ukraine through the Civil Protection Mechanism. On the eve of this winter, the relocation of a full-fledged thermal power plant, which Lithuania transferred as part of the largest coordinated logistical operation in the history of the mechanism, was also completed.
Brussels emphasized that the EU condemns Russia’s attacks on critical energy infrastructure and will continue to help Ukraine survive the winter.
As previously reported, after massive strikes on the energy sector and against the backdrop of frost, Kyiv is experiencing one of the most difficult winters in recent years: thousands of homes are without heat, and power outages remain unstable and difficult to predict.
Let us remind you that on the night of January 23 , utility services and energy companies restored heat supply to over 650 residential buildings in Kyiv.
