Head of European diplomacy Kaia Kallas announced that the European Union will allocate funds to create a Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression by the Russian Federation and to assist Ukrainian children deported by the Russians, victims of sexual crimes by the occupiers.
She said this during a press conference, Ukrinform reports .
“On accountability, I can announce today the first 10 million euros for the establishment of the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression,” Kallas said.
She emphasized that top Russian officials are responsible for the war in Ukraine, as there would have been no war crimes if there had been no invasion.
The European official noted that no one can go unpunished for the crimes they have committed. In particular, she said, the forced deportation of children to Russia and rape are “one of the darkest chapters of the Russian war.”
“Today we are allocating another 6 million euros to support the care of children deported by Russia and victims of sexual violence. This can help provide the necessary assistance to victims of these crimes,” assured Kaia Kallas.
We will remind, a group of states to establish a special tribunal on the crime of Russian aggression against Ukraine has completed the preparation of technical and legal documents for its launch on the basis of the Council of Europe.
By the way, the Western allies have agreed on a key principle for the work of the future Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine – Vladimir Putin will not be tried in absentia while he remains the president of Russia.
