The first Carpathian Summit was held in Ukraine: main results of the meeting

The first summit of the Carpathian G8 was held in Guta, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, with the participation of leaders and representatives of the region’s countries. Participants discussed the development of transport, energy, security, and economic cooperation, and prepared investment and trade agreements worth 1 billion euros.

This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to him, the summit was attended by representatives of 8 countries of the Carpathian region. He stated that the Carpathians should become an important center of economic growth, investment, and energy.

Among the priorities, he named the modernization of roads and railways, the development of logistics and military mobility, the construction of energy interconnectors, the development of mineral resources, and the strengthening of trade ties.

Within the economic part of the summit, almost 100 business projects from 8 countries with a total value of about 40 billion euros were presented. According to Zelensky, investment and trade agreements worth 1 billion euros were also prepared with the participation of about 500 business representatives.

During the summit, Zelensky held bilateral meetings with Romanian President Nicusor Dan, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

With Dan, we discussed cooperation within SAFE, joint production of drones, infrastructure and humanitarian issues, as well as security in the Black Sea region.

With Vučić, Zelenskyy discussed the European integration of Ukraine and Serbia, the situation after the Russian strikes, and the agreements reached during his visit to Belgrade.

During the meeting with Tusk, the parties discussed support for Ukraine, ending the war, and further development of the Carpathian Initiative. Zelensky also thanked Poland for the new aid package.

Separately, the president reported that the European Union has already transferred a tranche of 3.3 billion euros to Ukraine, and Norway has provided more than $100 million in budget support through the Ukraine Facility mechanism.

“The Carpathian macroregion has become one of the most reliable foundations of our defense,” Zelenskyy said.

It was previously reported that Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk arrived in Ukraine to participate in the Carpathian Integration Initiative summit . During the visit, he plans to have a personal meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky.
