The first step should be a ceasefire – Poroshenko held consultations with the President of the EPP on plans to end the war
The fifth President and current People’s Deputy Petro Poroshenko held urgent consultations with the President of the European People’s Party Manfred Weber regarding negotiations to end the war and the state of democracy in Ukraine.
He announced this on social media.
“I highly appreciated the support from the leaders of the European Union, in particular the leadership of the EPP, for the key principles for Ukraine of achieving a sustainable and just peace,” the fifth president wrote.
In particular, according to Poroshenko, it is about preserving sovereignty, territorial integrity, a strong army, national identity, membership in the EU and NATO, as well as the inevitability of the aggressor’s responsibility for war crimes.
“We noted a common understanding that the first step towards achieving peace and an indicator of the Putin regime’s willingness to end the war should be an immediate, unconditional, and comprehensive ceasefire,” he noted.
Poroshenko added that they agreed to continue coordinating positions.
