The French Navy, supported by intelligence provided by the UK, intercepted a tanker belonging to the Russian shadow fleet in the Mediterranean Sea.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced this.
According to the French Navy, the Grinch flies the flag of another country but is subject to sanctions. The French Navy is escorting the tanker to port for a detailed inspection.
Macron noted that the operation was carried out on the high seas with the participation of several French allies and in compliance with international law.
“The operation was carried out in strict compliance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea,” the French President emphasized.
As reported by Pryamoy , the fifth tanker that the US detained in the Caribbean near Trinidad was the Olina.
The UK is also preparing to forcefully intercept tankers from the so-called “shadow fleet” transporting oil in defiance of international sanctions.
