SpaceX founder Elon Musk said the Ukrainian military violated the terms of use of the Starlink satellite network by using it for drone strikes. He said the company eliminated the possibility of such use of the network last week.
He wrote about this in X.
Musk stressed that the use of the civilian Starlink network for drone strikes was not authorized. He also noted that the military Starshield system is a separate product under the control of the US government.
“The Ukrainian military violated the Starlink terms of use and used it for offensive drone strikes to kill people. This loophole was closed last week,” Musk said.
He also claims that a complete shutdown of Starlink would lead to the immediate destruction of the Ukrainian front line. At the same time, the businessman emphasized that this, according to him, is not a threat, but a statement of fact.
Musk added that SpaceX has done “far more than any private company on Earth” to protect Ukraine.
At the same time, he sharply criticized those he considers supporters of continuing the war without realistic proposals for ending it.
“The Ukrainian military violated the Starlink terms of use and used it for offensive drone strikes to kill people. This loophole was closed last week,” Musk said.
It is worth adding that as of the morning of October 24, the Defense Forces and specialists of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine recorded the operation of Starlink/Starshield at a speed of over 400 km/h . The department also confirmed the stability of the connection.
It was reported the day before that speed restrictions for Starlink/Starshield terminals, which cause satellite communication disruptions, remain in effect as of the morning of October 23. Ukrainian military experts have recorded cases of loss of communication at a speed of 161 km/h, and there is currently no confirmation of the lifting of the restrictions.
It was previously reported that US Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal has launched an investigation into Ukraine’s loss of access to the Starshield military satellite system used by the Pentagon. He wants to find out who made the decision to limit the service and whether the US Department of Defense has alternatives in case SpaceX services become unavailable.
